The Hill Complex is a section of the Great Zimbabwe ruins that are known to have been the spiritual and temple center of the surrounding area. There are two connections for me when it comes to the title. The first connection is when the colonists discovered the ruins they didn’t believe Africans were capable of building such monuments when all fingers pointed otherwise. So The Hill Complex is about building something great from the ground-up, which at this point I believe I can if I put in the work no matter what anybody else says. The other connection is using the idea of climbing up a hill as a metaphor for success and using the songs on the project to show why I have this fixed idea or complex as to why I can make it up this hill.
